UNION SAILING CLUB |
Racing is a big part of Union Sailing Club. We race on Sunday afternoons from April to October and on Wednesday evenings from May to September.
Popular boats out on the race course include Snipes, Mutineers, Lasers, MC Scows and Finns among others but races are open to any Portsmouth rated monohull or multi-hull. You do not need to be an experienced racer to join us, in fact we encourage new racers to come out and learn. If you know the basics of sailing the boat and have a reasonable understanding of the right-of-way rules, then you are ready to try it.
Not a member, but you'd like to try racing with us? No problem, we invite non-members to join us for up to 2 days of club racing before deciding if you'd like to join the club.
We realize people have difficulty making it to every race so we have made several changes to increase the competitive opportunities for those who can't show up every single week. Number of throw-outs have been increased, the length of the series have been shortened, and we have gone to a CHIPs high point scoring system, all in order to make it possible to score well in a series without having to attend every race.
Introduced in 2015, we also have a "LMS Fleet", which includes Lasers, Snipes, and Mutineers. This competitive group is scored separately from the Portsmouth boats, similar to One-Design sailing.
Come join the fun!
